Horse Heaven Hills
2016 started out very much like 2015 with an unusually warm winter and early spring that led to the earliest bloom on record. By mid-May we estimated we were a good 2 weeks ahead of average and the sun kept shining! At this rate we anticipated 2016 would surpass the total heat units of 2015. However, by June the temperatures cooled to our usual range and progressed beautifully until harvest time. Harvest commenced on September 7th and wrapped up by October 11th. The wines have intense flavors, beautiful color & excellent balance.
This wine is ruby red in the glass with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and blueberry. These black and blue flavors come together with Bing cherry tones, juicy plum, hints of cedar and our signature mocha; finished by a round, full palate, balanced yet vibrant acidity, and soft tannins.
The 2016 Horse Heaven Hills Malbec is 100% Malbec. The fruit was sourced from our vines at McKinley Springs Vineyard in Horse Heaven Hills. It was aged in 100% one vintage old French oak for 23 months. Ready to drink now but will age beautifully for 5-7 years. The alcohol by volume is 13.9%. It was bottled July 2018.
