Horse Heaven Hills
The 2014 growing season started with early heat and vine development. High heat throughout the summer promoted vine stress, with final ripening occurring in late September under ideal conditions. The 2014 wines are absolutely amazing. The wines have intense flavors, beautiful color & excellent balance.
This wine is ruby red in the glass with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and blueberry. These black and blue flavors come together with Bing cherry tones, juicy plum, hints of cedar and our signature mocha; finished by a round, full palate, balanced yet vibrant acidity, and soft tannins.
The 2014 Horse Heaven Hills Malbec is 100% Malbec. The fruit was sourced from our vines at McKinley Springs Vineyard in Horse Heaven Hills. It was aged in 100% one vintage old French oak for 23 months. Ready to drink now but will age beautifully for 5-7 years. The alcohol by volume is 14.4%. It was bottled July 2016.
Outstanding Andy Perdue/WinePressNW Dr. Joseph Gunselman gets most from his grapes in the Horse Heaven Hills, creating a classic Malbec poured in his downtown Spokane tasting room. Subtle oak spice aromas along with notes of blueberry and plum lead to flavors of black pepper, black cherry and blueberry. Bright acidity gives this wine an array of food pairing possibilities.
18.5/20 Rand Sealey, Review of Washington Wines Deep ruby-crimson colored, this offers a smoky, perfumed nose of raspberry, blueberry, cassis, crushed roses, mulberry, lavender, and violets. The flavors, as well, are appealing, with red and blue fruits that are intermixed with licorice, cocoa, French roast and wind blown earth. On the back, the wine turns chewy textured, with notes of macerated berries, roasted nuts, framboise, crème de cassis and toffee, followed by a grainy yet smooth ripe tannin finish. Fine value.
