Horse Heaven Hills
The 2014 growing season started with early heat and vine development. High heat throughout the summer promoted vine stress, with final ripening occurring in late September under ideal conditions. The McKinley Springs Cabernet was harvested September 24th, Phinny Hill on October 4th and Gunselman Bench on October 7th and 14th; the fruit was beautiful! The wines have intense flavors, beautiful color & excellent balance.
Aromas of black tea and cedar lead to well-structured and polished flavors of dark cherry, current, vanilla and spice. The signature mocha drives toward big but refined tannins creating a Cabernet that was built for aging.
The 2014 Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit was sourced from our vines on Gunselman Bench, McKinley Springs and Phinny Hill vineyards. It was aged in 100% French, 50% new for 23 months. The alcohol by volume is 13.5%, 100 cases produced, bottled July 2016.
18.5+/20 Rand Sealey, Review of Washington Wines Sourced from the Gunselman Bench, McKinley Springs and Phinny Hill vineyards, this 100% varietal wine displays a deep ruby-crimson color and enticing aromas of raspberries, cherries, plums, black roses, mulberry, tobacco, cedar and smoldering incense. The medium full-bodied flavors are direct and true to variety, with notes of black licorice, cocoa, French roast and earth. The concentration continues on the back with sensations of macerated berries, roasted nuts, toffee and graphite, followed by a chewy tannin finish.
