Horse Heaven Hills
The weather in 2013 took us on a wild ride! We had some rain in June, dust storms and even hail but by July we settled into record high temperatures. Ripening progressed quickly and we assumed harvest would come early but by mid-September temps cooled and rains moved in. The cool down allowed us to let the grapes hang longer and develop full varietal flavor. The wines have intense flavors, beautiful color & excellent balance.
The 2013 Horse Heaven Hills Merlot is 100% Merlot. The fruit was sourced from our vines at Andrews Horse Heaven Ranch in Horse Heaven Hills. It was aged in 100% used French oak for 23 months. The ideal consumption is 5 to 7 years from release date, but this wine will develop for another 10 years. The alcohol by volume is 14.3%. It was bottled September 2015.

At the end of its lengthy finish, this wine also reveals its sturdy structure be showing the characteristic Horse Heaven Hills minerality.
Excellent Wine Press NW Joe Gunselman is a doctor by day and a winemaker by night, and his abilities in the cellar have been proved for more than a decade. He used grapes from Andrews Horse Heaven Ranch, one of the top growers in Washington, for this tasty red. Aromas of minerally earth and black fruit lead to flavors of red currant, black olive and a hint of vanilla. Complex, layered tannins provide impeccable balance throughout.
