Horse Heaven Hills
The weather in 2013 took us on a wild ride! We had some rain in June, dust storms and even hail but by July we settled into record high temperatures. Ripening progressed quickly and we assumed harvest would come early but by mid-September temps cooled and rains moved in. The cool down allowed us to let the grapes hang longer and develop full varietal flavor. The wines have intense flavors, beautiful color & excellent balance.
This wine is ruby red in the glass with aromas of plum, dark cherry, licorice and coca. These flavors come together with Bing cherry tones, juicy plum, hints of cedar and our signature mocha; finished by a round, full palate, balanced yet vibrant acidity, and soft tannins. Ready to drink now but will age beautifully for 5-7 years.
The 2013 Horse Heaven Hills Malbec is 100% Malbec. The fruit was sourced from our vines at McKinley Springs Vineyard in Horse Heaven Hills. It was aged in 100% one vintage old French oak for 23 months. The ideal consumption is 5 to 7 years from release date, but this wine will develop for another 10 years. The alcohol by volume is 14.2%. It was bottled September 2015.
Andy Perdue/Great Northwest Wine This Spokane winery used grapes from McKinley Springs Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills for its 2013 Malbec. Spice, herbs and brambleberry open up its aromatics and on the palate it displays the deep, lush varietal fruit emblematic of Malbec, a dab of chocolate and carefully managed tannins.
