Horse Heaven Hills
The weather in 2013 took us on a wild ride! We had some rain in June, dust storms and even hail but by July we settled into record high temperatures. Ripening progressed quickly and we assumed harvest would come early but by mid-September temps cooled and rains moved in. The cool down allowed us to let the grapes hang longer and develop full varietal flavor. We harvested the Bench on September 30th; the fruit was beautiful! The wines have intense flavors, beautiful color & excellent balance.
The 2013 Horse Heaven Hills Gunselman Bench Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Gunselman Bench, our estate vineyard. It was aged in 100% French (70% new) oak for 23 months. The alcohol by volume is 14%. It was bottled September 2015.
18.5+/20 Rand Sealey, Review of Washington Wines This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a deep ruby color and a rich nose of blackberry, cherry, plum, crushed black roses, mulberry, tobacco, cedar, sandalwood and incense. On the palate, the flavors are true to variety, underlain with licorice, dark chocolate, French roast and Horse Heaven scorched earth. The supple textured, yet structured back picks up macerated berries, roasted walnuts, toffee, mocha, dried cherries and graphite, followed by a chewy ripe tannin finish.
