Horse Heaven Hills
The 2010 vintage was cool and wet, in fact the coolest temperatures we have seen since our 1st vintage in 1999. Although we had a warm early spring, May & June were very wet. The summer months were mild with few 100° days resulting in slow even ripening. September was unusually wet but October was gloriously warm and sunny. The wines produced in ’10 have great acidity and a very "Bordeaux-like" style. To ensure complete fruit maturation we lower yields through shoot thinning, leaf stripping and meticulous viticulture practices. The Malbec was harvested the last week of September, a little later than usual. The wines have intense flavors, beautiful color & excellent balance.
This wine is deep dark purple in the glass with aromas of plum, dark cherry, licorice and coca. These flavors come together with Bing cherry tones, juicy plum, hints of cedar and our signature mocha; finished by a round, full palate, balanced yet vibrant acidity, and soft tannins. Ready to drink now but will age beautifully for 5-7 years.
The 2010 Horse Heaven Hills Malbec is 100% Malbec. The fruit was sourced from our vines at McKinley Springs Vineyard in Horse Heaven Hills. It was aged in 100% one vintage old French oak for 23 months. The ideal consumption is 5 to 7 years from release date, but this wine will develop for another 10 years. The alcohol by volume is 13.5%. It was bottled September 6, 2012.
