Reserve Red Wine

Joe occasionally asks for a glass of inspiration while we are working at the winery. We felt that name fully described the few select barrels of reserve quality wine.

2006 was a beautiful vintage in Washington. A cool and wet spring led into a classic growing season. Plenty of summer heat produced grapes with wonderful intensity, natural acidity and great balance.

The 2006 Horse Heaven Hills Inspiration (reserve red wine) is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot.  The fruit was sourced from our estate vines at Gunselman Bench, Andrews Horse Heaven Ranch, McKinley Springs and Phinny Hill vineyards. It was aged in 100% new French oak for 28 months.  The ideal consumption is 2 to 5 years from release date, but this wine will develop for another 5-7 years.  The alcohol by volume is 14.2%, 100 cases made, bottled April 7, 2009.

REVIEWS
93 Wine Enthusiast A five-grape Bordeaux blend, this is the darkest and most dense of all the current Robert Karl reds. Raspberries, Bing cherries and cassis gather into slightly liquorous core, with nuanced notes of black olive and wood smoke. The tannins are refined and ripe, but the sweet and pretty fruit holds center stage. -P.G.
