Horse Heaven Hills
Reserve Red Wine
Joe occasionally asks for a glass of inspiration while we are working at the winery. We felt that name fully described the few select barrels of reserve quality wine.
The 2005 Horse Heaven Hills Inspiration reserve Claret is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc from our vines at Andrews Horse Heaven Ranch, Gunselman Bench, Phinny Hill and McKinley Springs Vineyards in Horse Heaven Hills. 93 Dr. Jay Miller Wine Advocate The 2005 Inspiration Reserve Red Wine is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. It was aged in 50% new oak for 26 months. Purple/black colored, it displays a brooding nose of cigar box, violets, spice box, scorched earth, espresso, licorice, and blackberry. Dense, brawny, and structured, it will evolve for 6-8 years and drink well through 2025. This is an impressive collection from Robert Karl Cellars.
91 Wine & Spirits Year’s Best Cabernets, December 2008 Aromas toward graham cracker spice. Its flavors are more fruit driven, succulent black plum and black cherry contoured by warm, spicy oak.
91 Paul Gregutt Wine Enthusiast This Bordeaux blend is a complex and sappy red with plenty of raspberry, cherry and cassis fruit flavor, tangy acids and ripe tannins. Young and tart, it is structured for age, compact and quite young. The oak brings in hints of butter and caramel.
